The Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF, also referred to as the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines), with the support of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, will host the 7th Mid-year Enrichment Conference for American Fulbright Student-Researchers and Scholars in Southeast Asia and Timor-Leste on March 15-16, 2017. Taking place at the Makati Shangri-La, the two-day conference will feature sessions aligned to the theme Scholarship for Global Change: Transcending Academic Boundaries in the 21st Century.
Forty-five (45) U.S. Fulbrighters who are hosted in Southeast Asian countries will convene in the country to present and discuss their research and projects in their fields of specialization. The biggest contingent is from Indonesia with 17 scholars. The rest of the participants come from Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and the Philippines. There will be concurrent panels in various disciplines, including STEM & Agriculture; Social Science, Arts & Humanities; Global Issues; Business; and a plenary panel on Teaching, Education, & Leadership. This conference is intended to be an avenue for Fulbrighters in the region to share their work in progress in a cordial and engaging setting and to expand their network.
Participants will also do a cultural immersion trip of their choice either to the Ayala Museum and House of Balikbayan Handicrafts or the Philippine National Museum and Silahis Arts and Artifacts. To give the participants a taste of Filipino arts &culture, a cultural show featuring songs and dances by the CLSU Maestro Singers and the Gintong Ani Philippines, Inc. –Central Luzon State University will culminate the two-day event.
