Early Years and Education
LT BRYNER R LAS PN is a fresh graduate of the Naval Command and Staff Course. However, prior the course, he was designated as the Presidential Service Officer of BRP Ang Pangulo (AY-25) and concurrently, the Junior Military Aide de Camp to the Former President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency President Benigno S Aquino III. Lt Las was born in Mapun, Tawi-Tawi on 30 July 1984. He finished his secondary education at the same place in Notre Dame of Cagayan then took up Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Silliman University, Dumaguete City for one year prior to his appointment as cadet in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 2002. He graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Major in Information System degree and was commissioned in regular force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as Ensign in the Philippine Navy (PN). LT LAS has been serving the AFP and PN for 15 years.
Upon his graduation from the PMA, LT LAS took further military schoolings and seminars both in local and abroad which includes: the Basic Naval Special Operations (Philippine Navy SEAL) Course, the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVEOD) Course, the Naval Intelligence Officers Course, the Force Protection Course, the Chemical Explosive System Exploitation Course, the Rule of Law and Disciplined Military Operations Seminar and the International Joint Maritime Tactical Development Course both in Surface Warfare Officers School, Newport, Rhode Island, USA where he was awarded with honor graduate certificate and plaque of recognition for graduating number 1 in class.
A combat-trained Philippine Navy SEAL and EOD specialist, LT LAS has served the AFP and the PN in various designations. Among his previous assignments were SEAL team leader of Naval Special Operations Unit – 8 under the operational control (OPCON) of AFP Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG); Assistant Operations Officer of NAVSOG; Training Officer of NAVSOG; Executive Officer of Naval EOD Unit; Operations Officer of Naval Intelligence Security Group (NISG)- West; Operations Officer of Ocean and Littoral Affairs Group (OLAG); Operations Officer of Joint Task Force Caballo which were organized to dispose the Explosive Remnants of War with a total net explosive weight 346,970 lbs previously stored at Caballo Island; and Aide de Camp to the Chief of Staff, AFP then, Gen Emmanuel T Bautista AFP.
LT LAS has also participated in various unilateral, bilateral and multi-lateral military exercises such as the BALIKATAN EOD and Diving Exercise, the PH-US SEAL to SEAL training, the Flash Piston, the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training
(CARAT), the South East Asia Cooperation Against Terrorism (SEACAT), PN-PAF DAGIT Exercise, and the Pagbubuklod Exercise of the Philippine Fleet.
Awards and Achievements
As a testament to his meritorious performance, LT LAS is a recipient of several military awards and decorations. These include the Presidential Medal of Merit, the Philippine Legion of Honor degree of Legionnaire, Two (2) Bronze Cross Medals for act of heroism involving risk of life, Three (3) Military Merit Medals, the Wounded Personnel Medal, the Sagisag ng Ulirang Kawal, the President Security Service Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation Badge, the Parangal sa Kapanalig ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas Ribbon, the Philippine Navy SEAL Badge, the Naval EOD Badge, the Kagitingan Badge (honorary) and the International Surface Warfare Officer Badge. He has also earned other military campaign ribbons.
LT LAS is married to Dr June Joanbelle Gabaldon-Las MD and they are blessed with two daughters, Jaeviene Bryce and Janaia Bryelle.
