American Fulbrighters Anna Alves and Brooke Tubbs arrived in the Philippines last September 9 and October 28, respectively. Their arrival completes the 2018 cohort of the U.S. Fulbright Student program in the Philippines.
Anna is set to work with the Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of English & Kritika Kultura, and University of the Philippines Institute of Creative Writing’s Likhaan for her PhD research titled “Trans-Pacific ‘Rhizome’: N.V.M. Gonzalez, Edith Tiempo, and the Filipino Imagination.” She also plans to attend Silliman University’s Tiempo Creative Writing Center sometime in May 2019.
Meanwhile, Brooke is a recent graduate from Alma College in Michigan. Currently, she is situated in Pampanga as she is hosted by Holy Angel University’s School of Education. Her Fulbright research is about Inclusive Education programs in the Philippines.
Anna and Brooke, together with Daniel (from the second batch) met with U.S. Embassy Manila’s Cultural Attaché Matt Keener last October 30. Matt also sits as the Treasurer at the PAEF Board of Directors.
The scholars were able to tour around the rest of the Public Affairs Section at the Embassy afterwards, including seeing the famous mural painting at the American Center.
