Fulbright Sponsor Washington SyCip Passes Away At 96
Sunday, 8 October 2017

The Fulbright community mourns the loss of one of our partners, Washington SyCip, who passed away last Saturday night at the age of 96.  He generously sponsored the Fulbright-SyCip Distinguished Lecturing Award which invited American academics and professionals to give lectures at major universities and organizations in Metro Manila and other institutions in select cities in Luzon and Visayas.

Since 1997, the program has sponsored 18 distinguished lecturers. Program participants were able to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and Filipino citizens. American lecturers gave public talks, mentored students, and engaged with their host communities, aside from their primary research or teaching activities. The 19th scholar of the Distinguished Lecturing Award will begin her program in February 2018.

Mr. SyCip was a Filipino-American accountant and the founder of the Asian Institute of Management and accounting firm SGV & Company.

The Philippine-American Educational Foundation extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. SyCip, who was truly a pillar in education and professional development in the Philippines.
