Humphrey Voices Series #7: Humphrey Alumna Talks About Heart Disease Prevention

The Hubert H. Humphrey Alumni Philippines held the 7th Humphrey Voices Series last February 26, 2016 at the Philippine-American Educational Foundation. Aptly titled Usapang Puso, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Otayza’s talk centered on heart disease prevention and risk factors. She covered a wide range of topics such as heart conditions during pregnancy; the importance of eating nutritious food, exercise, and sleep; and medical facilities in the Philippines. The audience actively participated in the discussions following the talk.
Dr. Otayza participated in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in 2007-2008 at Tulane University. The focus of her program was on Disaster Preparedness Planning and Public Health Policy. She is currently Chief of Hospital of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
The event was attended by ASec Arnel Bañas, the current President of the Hubert H. Humphrey Alumni Philippines and some members of his Board, guests, including 2016-2017 Fulbright-SyCip Distinguished Lecturer Joanne Scillitoe, Dr. Esmeralda Cunanan and the PAEF Staff and the two recently named Fulbright Fellows for 2016-2017—Judge James Sy of the MTC Marikina and Atty. Floro Balato, Jr. of the Bureau of Immigration.
