BRIEF BIO
Hellene earned her Bachelors and Masters at Silliman University in Dumaguete, the literary heritage city of the Philippines. She started teaching in 2011 at a local private high school in the city then decided to pursue graduate studies the year after. She is now an Assistant Professor at the English and Literature Department of Silliman University.
She was born in Southern Leyte, and grew up in the sugar cane province of Negros Oriental in the Visayas. When she is not overwhelmed with teaching loads in the university, she trains as a triathlete and hikes the mountain areas of Negros. She currently trains for a virtual long distance swimming race organized by Ocean 6, the swim team honored with the Environmental Heroes Award for Women Leaders in Environmental Conservation given by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF).
Hellene is the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) in San Bruno, California.
