Jareason is a teacher education instructor and chief of Social Development Research Center of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He is completing a PhD in Linguistics from the same university. His research interests include gender studies, culture studies, language education, and assessment in learning.
As a Fulbright - Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship (FLTA) grantee, Jareason will spend 9-months as Tagalog (Filipino) language teaching assistant in Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington. Through the FLTA program, he is to learn and grow both personally and professionally. He is also interested in advocating for peace by sharing the strengths in cultural diversity to resolve conflicts. As a language educator, he believes that teaching a language will always be intertwined with teaching culture and traditions of the people. He hopes to teach Tagalog as a language rooted in values of peace and camaraderie. He would also like to learn the American and other foreign languages and cultures to be more sensitive of their ways of life to strengthen Filipino-American friendship and our solidarity with the rest of the world.
Through the Fulbright FLTA Program, Jareason hopes to come back as a better person, a more proficient language educator and researcher, and a more experienced cultural and peace advocate in the Philippines.
