Zedny is an instructor at the University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City, Philippines. She earned her Master in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Criminology at the same University. Her research interests include corrections, victimization, and human rights-related studies. As a Foreign Student Program grantee, Zedny will spend 4-5 years as a student at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell under its Ph.D. program in Criminology and Justice Studies.
She is interested in understanding the parallels and differences between the correctional systems of the United States and the Philippines and using the acquired knowledge, skills, and practices to foster comprehensive and sensitive programs for a more effective reformation and administration of prisons and jails in the Philippines. Significantly, she seeks to grasp how the cultures and disciplines in the United States are entwined with the Philippines for a wider perspective on corrections and greater progress in the American-Filipino relationship. Zedny hopes that she will be a better asset to the community and a more flexible educator and researcher. As a criminologist, she ensures, with the Program as an ally, that she will be an active advocate in the criminology profession by forging notable contributions in the field and in the Philippines. |
