I. Biography

Joedel is currently finishing his Master of Arts in Education major in English Language Teaching studies at the Center for Teaching Excellence - School of Education of the University of San Carlos. He earned his degree in Education major in English at the Naval State University where he graduated top of his class as Magna cum Laude and the first student to be conferred with the Best in Student Teaching Demo & Best English Major Awards of the College of Education.

After finishing his undergraduate studies and passing the Licensure Examination of Teachers (LET), he taught as a Substitute Professor on Developmental Reading at the Eastern Visayas State University – Tacloban, College of Education. After this, he went back working in his alma mater teaching both high school and college students in Communication Arts, Public Speaking & Debate, Campus Journalism, Linguistics, among others while serving the college’s official student publication as an adviser.

At present, he is the designated as University & Board Secretary of the BiPSU serving both the university’s Governing Board and the Office of the University President. He is also the Moderator of the An Lantugi Debate Society of the University where he actively teaches students the art of public speaking and critical thinking through the organization’s Debate Education Program (DEP).

III. Skills and other area/s of interest

I am interested in the fields of Applied & Educational Linguistics specifically investigating the interaction between affective filters and communicative competence among L2 learners in local and rural areas. One of my current research projects is the assessment of the English Competency among the first batch of Senior High School graduates of the country’s K to 12 program with the end goal of providing recommendations for the improvement of the curriculum and the teaching and learning processes involved.

My other activities include singing, content writing and editing, and coaching students in various academic competitions.
