Rochelle is a Full Professor and Incoming Dean of the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC College of Education at De La Salle University. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the same institution. Her research focuses on psycholinguistics, multilingualism, language documentation, and Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) education.
Rochelle has conducted extensive research on language motivation, anxiety, and attitudes among ESL and EFL learners. Recently, she completed a language documentation project on an indigenous group in the Philippines (Hanunoo Mangyan), with the goal of assisting the community in preserving their language. She is also part of DLSU’s research team tasked by The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) to investigate the bullying phenomenon in Philippine educational settings, based on the 2018 PISA results.
As a participant in the Advanced Research and University Lecturing Program, Rochelle will collaborate with Dr. Patricia Alvarez Martinez, a renowned figure in bilingualism and bilingual education. Her university involvement will offer her opportunities and resources to develop a language maintenance program for IP Basic Education schools modeled after the USA’s language program for migrant learners. Rochelle aims to ensure that the language maintenance program she develops contributes to the preservation of IP groups' language and culture in the country. |
